- 17 Aug, 2024
WWE star Randy Orton has shared that he once pursued the role of Cable in the film Deadpool 2, a character that was eventually portrayed by Josh Brolin. In a conversation on the podcast hosted by Cody Rhodes, Orton reminisced about the moment he submitted an audition tape for the 2018 sequel, expressing his strong belief that the role was meant for him.
Orton stated that he auditioned for Cable with confidence, feeling certain that he would land the role. He highlighted his enthusiasm, saying he thought, "This is it." However, he then faced disappointment when he received no callback and ultimately saw Brolin take the part. With a touch of humor, Orton reflected on the experience, acknowledging his identity as a professional wrestler.
Deadpool 2 featured the talents of Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, and Morena Baccarin, showcasing Reynolds's character teaming up with the reluctant Cable, a soldier capable of time travel, to prevent a series of tragic events that would lead to the death of Cable's family.
The sequel achieved significant commercial success, amassing $785 million worldwide, although it was later overshadowed by the billion-dollar success of Deadpool and Wolverine, which brought back Hugh Jackman as the iconic X-Men character.
Deadpool and Wolverine has made history as the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, surpassing the total box office earnings of Joker, which stood at $1.079 billion.
