Patrick Gibson Cast as Young Dexter in Showtime's Prequel Series Dexter: Original Sin

The beloved protagonist from a top Netflix series is gearing up to portray a younger Dexter in the upcoming prequel to the acclaimed show about a vigilante serial avenger. Showtime is bringing a fresh Dexter prequel series to screens, boasting impeccable casting. Patrick Gibson, known for his role in Shadow and Bones, will embody the role of Dexter Morgan during his early years in Dexter: Original Sin. Christian Slater is on board to portray his adoptive dad Harry, alongside Molly Brown (Senior Year) who will take on the role of a youthful Debra Morgan. Steering the show's creative direction as executive producer is Clyde Phillips, who was the original showrunner for Dexter.

According to the official description, Dexter: Original Sin tracks Dexter (portrayed by Gibson) as he evolves from a college student into a vigilante serial avenger. As Dexter grapples with his escalating predatory instincts, he must master his profound darkness. Under the tutelage of his father, Harry (played by Slater), Dexter crafts a Code to target and eliminate individuals deemed detrimental to society, all while staying off the police radar. This proves particularly tricky as Dexter embarks on a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

The narrative of Dexter, which draws inspiration from Jeff Lindsay's novels, debuted on Showtime in 2006, spanning eight seasons. Set in Miami, Florida, it explores Dexter Morgan's double life as a forensic blood spatter analyst by day and a vigilante by night. Original Sin is positioned 15 years before the first season of Dexter, with Showtime committing to a 10-episode storyline.

Michael C. Hall, fresh from his critically acclaimed role in Six Feet Under, originally brought Dexter Morgan to life. The cast also included Jennifer Carpenter as his sister Debra, Lauren Velez as Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta, Erik King playing Dexter's colleague and adversary James Doakes, Julie Bennett as Rita, the mother of his child, and C.S. Lee as the distinctive coworker Vincent Masuka.
