Nintendo Switch Surpasses 150 Million Units Sold as Attention Shifts to Next-Gen Console
- 07 Feb, 2025

The remarkable success of the Nintendo Switch reflects its position in the gaming industry. Recent figures released by Nintendo indicate that the console has surpassed an impressive 150 million units sold. Although we are nearing the tail end of its lifecycle, and anticipation builds for the upcoming successor, there are still opportunities for Nintendo to boost Switch sales further.
When considering the all-time best-selling consoles, the Nintendo Switch firmly holds its spot in the top three. It shares the podium with the Nintendo DS, which achieved sales of 154 million units units, and the PlayStation 2, boasting over 160 million units. However, it appears unlikely that the original Switch will surpass either of these figures, especially with the impending launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.
This information comes from Nintendo's most recent financial report, which also highlights the performance of their other consoles. This includes the previously mentioned DS, alongside less successful models such as the Wii U, which reached just over 13 million units sold, and the GameCube, with a total of 21 million units.
As Nintendo has demonstrated its ability to dominate the sales charts, all attention is now focused on the new Switch model to see if it can replicate this level of success.
