Miyazaki Reflects on Poison Swamps in Elden Ring, Teases Milder Challenge in Upcoming DLC
- 23 Jun, 2024
Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledges that he might have gone overboard with Elden Ring's poison swamps, particularly the Lake of Rot. The memory of the suffering caused by these swamps will linger with many players. As FromSoftware ventured into their first open-world experience with Elden Ring, Miyazaki now regrets the inclusion of several notorious poison swamps.
In a conversation with CNET, he mentioned that he perhaps overdid it when incorporating poison swamps in the original game. He reflected on this, realizing he might have pushed it too far. With the upcoming DLC, he has applied lessons learned from the original game to create a less onerous version of these swamps.
While players can still anticipate encountering a poison swamp in the upcoming DLC, the experience should be less daunting. Additionally, the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is expected to feature exceptionally challenging bosses, with Miyazaki having significantly tested the boundaries of player endurance.
Although broken controllers from swamp poison might be less frequent, players should brace themselves for difficult boss attack patterns that could take quite some time to master. Miyazaki continues to provide both challenges and rewards.
